We are family

PlayAhead is a family run business with its head office and manufacturing facility in Gloucestershire.

The company was founded over 10 years ago and was initially set up to specialise in manufacturing problem solving tasks for outdoor team building events.

Very quickly after launch the owners of the business, Jerry and his father Dick, saw a real opportunity to develop the business by using their expertise to design and build timber garden play equipment – such as treehouses, climbing frames and aerial walkways – for domestic customers.

Safety is paramount

Over the past 30 years, and through our experience in the outdoor adventure education market, PlayAhead has worked with children of all ages on activities such as climbing, abseiling and adventure days. As a consequence of this, ensuring children’s safety whilst they have a great time playing on our bespoke timber play equipment comes as second nature.

Fulfilling your garden play equipment dreams

From the first consultation meeting PlayAhead has with you, to the moment the final bolt is secured into your play tower, climbing frame or treehouse, our efficient team works hard to ensure the timber play equipment we make fulfils your requirements.

Your dedicated team

The PlayAhead team comprises of six people.

Jerry will be the first person you speak to and meet. His one-to-one consultative approach will allow him fully evaluate your needs and expectations as well as give the PlayAhead team the information they need to build your bespoke outdoor play equipment. He will be your main point of contact throughout the whole process.

After you are happy with your design, Les will take over. He’s the engineer and digital wizard and works to ensure your design is robust, safe and – most importantly – can be manufactured.

Then it’s onto the manufacturing team which Dave oversees. He works with Steve and Dale to produce all play equipment in PlayAhead’s custom built factory. Once ready, they are the team that travel to your house to install the equipment.

Dick oversees the whole process, from initial consultation meeting to installation.

All equipment ‘Approved by Ben’

Considered the most important member of the team, Jerry’s son Ben (11) is PlayAhead’s ultimate tester and critic.

At just one year older than the company itself, since he could walk Ben has been hanging, swinging and running around a variety of bespoke climbing frames, treeehouses, play towers and outdoor swings. The team have spent many a nail biting moment waiting for his verdict on a customer’s outdoor play equipment design…
