Shelters & Benches Case Study
COMMERCIAL CASE STUDY: SHELTERS & BENCHES
CUSTOMER: BAILEY’S COURT PRIMARY
Bailey’s Court Primary School is based in Bristol. Following an introduction meeting with PLAYahead the head teacher decided that she wanted to incorporate a shelter into a very confined space that she had available in the playground.
She wanted the shelter to be used both as an outdoor classroom and for parents to stand under when waiting for children in bad weather.
The school also had a beech tree which it wanted to make into more of a feature.
After a design consultation, PLAYahead created a shelter with two entrances and two exits which enabled the children to move freely in and out of the shelter. It also incorporated slatted sides so that teachers could keep an eye on what was going on inside.
In order to make a feature of the beech tree, PLAYahead designed a small bench that wound effortlessly around its trunk.
The build and installation of the shelter and bench took 4 weeks and was planned so that the installation took place during the school holiday period.
