Boats & Trains Case Study
COMMERCIAL CASE STUDY: BOATS & TRAINS
CUSTOMER: FOREST VIEW PRIMARY SCHOOL
Forest View Primary School is based in The Forest of Dean and PlayAhead were recommended to them. The head teacher had seen an example of a play boat that had been designed for another customer and decided that they wanted something bigger that had wheelchair access for use by their reception year children.
After a design consultation, PlayAhead put together a design for a 6 metre x 2 metre ship that had efficient space inside for wheelchairs to manoeuvre easily. A 1 metre wide gang plank ramp was also installed in order to allow easy access onto the ship.
Other design details included the incorporation of two ships wheels, portholes and flags.
The ship was situated on a grass area next to the playground. Grass matting, which led from the playground to the ship, was also laid in order to make wheelchair access over the grass easier and keep the children’s shoes clean during the winter months.
Manufacture and installation of the ship took 5 weeks from the sign off of the initial design.
